M-22 is a marvelous stretch of road that extends for 116 miles and through three separate counties. The highway runs from the community of Manistee and continues northward through Traverse City.
During your drive, you’ll pass through Manistee, Benzie, and Leelanau Counties, each of which offers plenty of natural beauty and manmade charm. There’s something along the route for everyone to love.
Throughout the years, you might have spotted Michigan drivers with “M-22” bumper stickers and other merchandise. That’s right: this highway is so well-loved that it has something of a cult following.
Kick off your journey in Manistee and venture northward past delightful small towns like Arcadia and Onekama, which is home to two lovely lakes. Stop at the Portage Lake Pierhead for a stroll.
